This is a national recognition of Â鶹Éç’s deep commitment to supporting and advancing the success of first-generation college students. There are many efforts that make it possible at Â鶹Éç, from mentoring students, creating programming, assisting with data tracking, advocating for resources, and supporting first-year students on their journey at OU.

“At Â鶹Éç, we understand that being the first in your family to attend college is both an incredible achievement and a unique challenge. Our office of First Generation and Student Support Programs is here to assist students every step of the way—with mentorship, resources, and a strong support network—to make sure they feel fully equipped to succeed,†said Austin Rayford, director of equity and care.

Since its launch, 489 institutions have joined the Network.

Institutions join the Network through a competitive application process. During the first year, Network Members engage in monthly workshops, peer learning opportunities, and professional development sessions while contributing to a nationwide knowledge-sharing community.

“We are pleased to welcome Â鶹Éç University into the FirstGen Forward Network,†said Dr. Stephanie J. Bannister, vice president with FirstGen Forward. “Through the application process, it was clear that Â鶹Éç is not only committed to supporting first-generation students, but also prepared to invest in long-term, strategic efforts that create environments where these students can truly thrive.â€
