Dr. Kendra King Momon named interim provost at Âé¶¹Éç University

Dr. Kendra King Momon, professor of politics at Âé¶¹Éç University, has been named Interim Provost by Dr. Kathryn McClymond, provost and soon-to-be interim president.

“Dr. Momon has served as interim provost in the past and has done an outstanding job as associate provost for nearly two years,†McClymond said. “With 20 years of experience as a member of the Âé¶¹Éç faculty, she knows the faculty, collaborates frequently with the staff and has an unrelenting focus on students. Her work on the Academic Affairs team overseeing faculty development; diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives; academic grade appeals and special projects has been stellar, and her experience and expertise will serve the Âé¶¹Éç community well.â€

Dr. Kendra King MomonIn her role as associate provost, she developed faculty leadership and development resources, including a webinar on faculty recruitment and retention with Dr. Laura Renée Chandler, vice president for diversity, equity and inclusion. She also developed a university-wide faculty mentorship model.

Dr. Momon joined the Âé¶¹Éç community in 2003 and was named the Chair of the new Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Task Force in 2020. Previously, she was Chair of the Division of Politics, History, and International Studies and served as Interim Provost from December 2020 to July 2021.

Dr. Momon is the author of multiple articles and books on African-American politics, gentrification, and leadership training and development, and has served as an expert on the life, leadership, and legacy of Dr. Martin L. King, Jr. Her most recent book, , was released in October 2020. She is a regular panelist on the Georgia Public Broadcasting radio show and podcast She has also been a frequent guest commentator on local, national, and international television news and media outlets, including CNN, the Associated Press, NPR, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and The Washington Post.

She received her bachelor’s degree from Colby College and Ph.D. from The Ohio State University.
